04.23.2003 - FINAL VIO-LENCE SHOW RECAP
Had VIO-LENCE played founding guitarist Phil Demmel's final show indoors, they would have blown the roof off. To help celebrate, MACHINE HEAD's Robb Flynn rejoined his thrash alma mater, forming a devastating triple-axe-attack alongside Demmel and Troy Fua. Bodies flew and heads banged the entire set.

Clocking in at nearly two hours and debuting two new songs, VIO-LENCE unleashed a setlist designed to take no prisoners:

Liquid Courage
Serial Killer
World In A World
Calling In The Coroner
Kill On Command
Phobophobia
Bodies On Bodies
Ageless Eyes
Torture Tactics
Gutterslut
Officer Nice
Dissection Of Christ
Fuck Peace
Paraplegic
Eternal Nightmare
T.D.S. (Take It As You Will)

"Dissection Of Christ" and "Fuck Peace" consist of brutal thrash delivered with the ferocity only VIO-LENCE can conjur, boding well for their upcoming full-length album. "T.D.S." saw dozens of crazy fuckers climb aboard to form an onstage pit as VIO-LENCE came to the grinding halt of a derailing freight train.

Close to 10 cameras captured the insanity, which is being considered for inclusion on the upcoming DVD. Stay tuned for pictures as well as new merch available to purchase on this website. Some visual evidence of the show can be viewed at Powerslave.com.

Phil Demmel's statement on leaving the band:

To all my friends who care to know..........

I'm a firm believer that things, good or bad, happen for a reason.

I can't control what has happened the past year or so,only deal with it the best way I can.

Ever since my 4th grade talent show, when I performed the song "Convoy" behind a cardboard 18-wheeler, I've known what I wanted to do.

Going from tennis racket guitars and putting on my own KISS concerts in the backyard, and my first original band "On Parole" (w/Zet), to signing a deal with Mechanic/MCA and recording my first album @ 21. Touring with my bros, losing drums off the roof of the van, wiping boogers on the ceiling, meeting the coolest people and tearing shit up with one of the best live bands on earth, I've known what I was born to do.

So that being said.............

It's simply time for me step away from the band that has been my baby for the past 18 years.

There's nothing I would love more than to be able to make Vio into a functioning, working band. But damn it, everyone went and grew up.

Sean, Troy, Perry and Deen, thank you all for understanding and giving me your blessing. It's been my pleasure these past 2 years reinventing what we've had. No one person is Vio-lence. I wish you all the best.

I am fulfilling my commitment to all of you, to write and record the new album. We'll be playing 2 new songs @ the 4-19 show, which will be my final show with the band.

The band has informed me that they will be on hiatus after the recording, but might be up for playing if the right show comes along.

Finally, I fully appreciate all the kind words I've received from everyone. I've been truly blessed with a lot of supporting friends, which all of you are.

- PD

Sean Killian adds:

We will not be playing any shows in the near future. If something large overseas were to come up we would have to all agree.

It was a great run thanks for all your support, I personally had a blast.

The new material will be recorded and released for your enjoyment.

Phil Demmel's update on the forthcoming VIO-LENCE album:

"I've got ideas for 5 songs. Just need to structure them out and add a few 'Vio' twists then I'll sit down w/Sean and add some words. The new stuff is definitely in the EN vein, but with more arpeggiated riffs. In playing with the 3 bands (Vio, NOC & MH) these past 7 months or so, I've been able to put in quite a bit of practice time. Expect a ton of riffs and tempo changes (nothing too progressive) and some crazy double bass. Hang tight guys, it'll be worth the wait!"

09.23.2002 - NEW ALBUM/LIVE SHOW INFO
Phil Demmel revealed to Blabbermouth.net:

Vio-lence will likely issue their next studio album through a new label entity formed by former Exodus manager Toni Isabella and one-time Capitol Records A&R executive Rachel Matthews (who signed Exodus and Rigor Mortis to the label back in the late '80s).

Demmel and vocalist Sean Killian plan to spend the next several months penning the material for the as-yet-untitled record, which will feature a musical direction along the lines of the group's acclaimed 1988 debut, Eternal Nightmare.

Also planned for release through the same label are a live CD and DVD from the group, recorded last December 14th at Slim's in San Francisco, as well as a reissue of Eternal Nightmare, featuring bonus cuts not found on the original version.

Demmel is also "hinting" about a possible Vio-lence live Halloween gig. Stay tuned for more info!
